DIXIT!!!

and hence starts the funny things about names....

i introduced myself as kaushik to the guy at the immigration counter and he asked COW SHIT??? what kind of name is that? and the guy next to him said probably thats the name in INDIA coz cows are considered sacred there...

made me wonder then what about longbottom or sidebottom... are they sacred in their respective countries?

guys i am not making this up... but just try putting this on Google "Newzeland names" and the first site that comes is http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/category-new-zealand-names.html- and the name that tops the list is AATA... meaning what is aata in that world at all... didnt know they ate chapathis... leave alone the fact that they are considered sacred there. and the next name is ABBEY. as in abbey saaley!!!

the recent stir about newzeland reporter caused a huge uproar all around the world. but the surprise was even bigger when i went to the wikipedia to browse about the country... and i quote "It is unknown whether the Māori had a name for New Zealand as a whole before the arrival of Europeans, although they referred to the North Island as Te Ika a Māui (the fish of Māui) and the South Island as Te Wai Pounamu (the waters of greenstone) or Te Waka o Aoraki (the canoe of Aoraki)" and they went on to say PLEASE NOTE THIS CAREFULLY- "Although the North and South Islands have been known by these names for many years, the New Zealand Geographic Board has stated that as of 2009, they have no official names."

so a country which doesn't have an official name for itself had a reporter talking about funny names around the world...

and so the more i think about it the only conclusion i can come to is this. no matter what they name the islands, the country will be a lovely place to live in, just like others in INDIA who have charming personalities beyond their names.

far fetched

guys,
i have always wondered as to how planetary positions actually decide what type of people we become? how does it say whether a person is capable of being a doctor or an actor or engineer and so on and so forth?

i have always believed that these planetary position have a way of interacting with human lives. i am trying to hypothesize a theory for the same, which could have a scientific reason

let us set thing straight first. we all know that all decisions in our life a re based on thinking. what are these thought? they are actually a complicated process of neurotransmitters that communicate between various parts of the brain. the details of these i am not going into but probably nobody can perfectly explain them.

let us say for example the brain secretes a neurotransmitter called "DOPAMINE" this dopamine actually causes excitation... this is the transmitter secreted when people smoke, booze, do weed etc.,. the deficiency of this transmitter causes PARKINSONS DISEASE. a disease which causes slowing down of all activities.

so what forms these dopamine? dopamine is a neurotransmitter formed by enzymes(which are inturn protein themselves). these proteins are formed from genes

to simplify it genes -> enzymes -> neurotransmitter -> reactions/ thoughts/ actions

so if a person has a more amount of dopamine forming enzymes, he is a very cheerful, happy going, slightly maniac kind of guy, the spectrum depending upon the level of enzymes

if u r there with me so far, then the next part is not very complicated

now how does a gene express itself? meaning we all have genes that constitute chromosomes. but not all genes are expressed. how do we know that which genes are expressed and which are not. scientists say that it occurs randomly. but i believe otherwise.

this is where my hypothesis kicks in. i believe there is some order in this chaos. i believe that the planetary position actually decide the gene expression. each of these celestial body has a particular gravitational force. like the moon causing the waves to go higher during a full moon day. so these planets could possibly exert a force on our genetic make up thereby helping our genes to express themselves.

ex- cancer-> moon sign-> gene expression -> neurotransmitters-> moody guys

based on this hypothesis you can probably explain that a personality of a person can actually be decided and hence a prediction can be made as to which job in life could be ideal for them.

i might seem a far fetched theory.... but....

leave u at that

LOOK BACK AND SEE

guys

today's world has almost become a rat race. everyday we get up and before we know it we are actually competing with somebody else. this could be at work, where u r trying to be better than ur colleagues. or it could be on the road trying to rush through traffic, not allowing vehicles to cross you in the cross roads. it could even mean holding lifts at your floor so that your kids don't get late to school. if u actually sit and ponder towards the end of the day you will realize that knowingly or unknowingly (the former being more common) you would have actually raced against someone known or unknown

but then where is all this getting us to? people say that these are things that actually keep you in shape, and gives you a better livelihood. these things are actually necessary to sustain a great life

i know a friend of mine (pretty old mind you). he finished his schooling with amazing grades. he was the state topper then. he went on and joined IIT. he was an ace student and passed with brilliant marks and was placed in  a major firm. but that wasn't enough for him. he joined IIM and topped his class yet again. he got placed in a bigger company and a bigger salary. he went on and worked 18-20 hrs a day. he was a very successful man. the company recognized his quality and promoted him quickly. but that wasn't enough. he shifted to another company where he had more hands on research and development. he was brilliant as usual there too. he rose in ranks pretty fast. bu then that wasn't enough. he decided to start his own company. he started it and is now putting heart and soul into it.

but then what has he missed? he has two sons, and he doesn't know which class they are studying in. he doesn't know his wedding anniversary or any of their birthdays. he has no clue on what his sons do during their free time. and the time has almost come when the elder son is getting married. and the younger one is going abroad for studies.

sitting in a chair, he told me "i think i have achieved a lot of things. but the things i have missed are far greater."

find sometime in your competitive schedule to notice the special people around you. a nice little chat with a good old friend (which is not a reason to booze) does not make you an immature idiot not bothered about your day to day living. spend some time with your dear ones. because at one point of time you will realize that there is one race no matter how much you run, you cannot win

RACE WITH TIME

and hence i step into the world of blogging... probably with the notion that i am actually creating a memory bank...

a thought on todays Electronic era.

i was in a boarding school in my 11th and 12th grades wherein i used to write an inland letter almost twice a week to my mom. we used ti take snaps using the film roll camera and get it printed and probably look at it when ever we feel low or happy. i never realized how important they were till recently when i went home and i saw my mother actually preserving the letters i had sent to her when i was in the boarding school. and when i look at the snaps in the album, it does remind me of very fond memories

but in todays world of all the email and cell phone facilities, an emotional moment is hardly relived. you can see an email that says something very sentimental, but then at some point of time it just disappears from ur screen and ur mind. and a few years down the line if u want to relive that moment, its lost. the same thing with pictures. we take snaps after snaps with our mobiles and digicams and store them in pen drives and hard disks, but we dont have a printed album of the same.

guys, i feel we should try and compromise this electronic era at times so that we can relive the moment. trust me, an e-card sent by your sister on raksha bandhan is not even remotely close to a greeting card and rakhi tied by your sister.

live the moment, and later relive it
